At 27 violist
David Walther is the youngest member of the New Hollywood String
Quartet. Though brief in years, his career has already spanned
four continents and has included appearances at such distinguished
venues as the 1999 World Harp Congress in Prague and the Spoleto
Festival in Italy. Since moving to Los Angeles in 1994, Mr. Walther
has performed widely as a soloist and chamber musician with such
distinguished ensembles as the Debussy Trio, the USC Symphonic
Winds and the Camerata Pacifica.
As a student Mr. Walther was selected 1993 String Player of the
Year at the New England Conservatory’s Preparatory Division. He
has since earned both Bachelor and Masters Degrees "summa cum
laude" from the USC Thornton School of Music in Los Angeles where
he studied under noted violist Donald McInnes. Summer festivals
have included the Music Academy of the West, the Spoleto Festival
and the Weathersfield Music Festival.
Also a composer, Mr. Walther’s works for violin and piano have
garnered considerable acclaim, and his recently completed horn
trio is to be performed by the Christiane Trio of Boston in the
coming season. |
